Discover a Sky Island Hike in the Chiricahuas

If you've never experienced one of Arizona's remarkable sky islands, there's no better place to start than the Chiricahua Mountains. Rising dramatically from the surrounding desert “sea”, the range climbs to elevations of more than 7,000 feet, creating a striking contrast between the arid landscape below and the cool, wooded peaks above.
Chiricahua National Monument offers miles of scenic day hikes that wind through volcanic rock pinnacles, towering cliffs, and balancing boulders. Each trail showcases the monument's extraordinary geology while offering spectacular views around every turn.
For our visit, we chose the peaceful Silver Spur Meadow Trail. The path meanders through open grasslands beneath towering rock formations before arriving at a historic homestead dating back to the late 1800s. The combination of dramatic scenery and the area's pioneer past made this hike a great way to experience one of Arizona's prime destinations.
If you're planning your next Arizona getaway, think about a day trip to this remarkable sky island. No matter which trail you choose, the Chiricahuas deliver unforgettable scenery, fascinating history, and an experience unlike anywhere else in the state.
