Overview

  • A unique urban water park in Tucson offering boating, birding, fishing, and hiking Formerly named Christopher Columbus Park, renamed in 2025 to honor Danny Lopez, a Tohono O’odham elder dedicated to cultural preservation and education

  • Located along the Santa Cruz riverbed, with a large entrance sign visible from Silverbell Road

  • Features two large lakes: Silverbell Lake (13 acres): open for recreational boating and community fishing and Archer Lake: designated for remote-controlled model boats only

  • Ideal for picnicking, birdwatching, and leisurely strolls and provides close-up views of waterfowl and panoramic mountain vistas

  • Connects to Tucson’s Chuck Huckleberry Loop, a popular cycling and walking path along the Santa Cruz River

  • Parking and picnic tables under solar panel arrays

  • Lakes are filled with reclaimed water from the Sweetwater treatment facility

  • Covers 230 acres of grassy open space

  • 1-acre lighted dog park: includes a fountain, scrambling area, and shade ramada
